We collect and use personal information (including name, address, telephone number, email address, charitable donation specifics) in order to:

  • respond to queries or requests submitted by you
  • process charitable donations submitted by you
  • administer or otherwise carry out our obligations in relation to any agreement you have with us
  • anticipate and resolve problems with any products or services supplied to you
  • better tailor and improve the features of products and services


  • We will at times append and update your personal information to ensure it is as complete and accurate as possible through direct inquiries to you as well as through the use of publically available information sources (ie: internet searches, social media, public employer websites, paid address validation services, etc)

    Credit card number is collected, processed,and protected by our payment processor (Cybersource) United Way does not keep record of your personal credit card information in our local systems.

    If you use our services while you are outside Canada, your information may be transferred outside Canada in order to provide you with those services.

    As a policy and commitment to donor confidentiality, United Way will not disclose any personally identifiable information without your permission unless we are legally entitled or required to do so (for example, in certain situations, we may be required to disclose personal data in response to lawful requests by public authorities, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements; We may also disclose your personal information as required by law, such as to comply with subpoena or other legal process, when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect and/or defend our rights, property or personal safety and those of our users/donors, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request.

    If United Way is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, you will be notified via e mail and/or a prominent notice on our website of any change in ownership or use of your personal information, as well as any choices you many have regarding your personal information.

    Providing you with additional information and sharing your information

    We will share your personal information with third parties only in the ways that are described in this privacy statement.

    We will regularly use your personal and donation information to refine fundraising strategies and build intelligence around trends. We believe that these additional uses will be of benefit to you and to United Way’s ability to effectively fundraise and reinvest those dollars back into the local community.

    Personal and donation information collected from this website and used in our research is accessible only to United Way staff and qualified volunteers and is not shared, sold or made available outside of the organization.

    We may provide your personal information to companies that provide services to help us with our business activities such as our payment processor. These companies are authorized to use your personal information only as necessary to provide these services to us.

    Additionally, if at any time you wish us to stop using your information to contact you about upcoming events, services, etc., please log into the system and unsubscribe from our newsletter by visiting the “Subscriptions” page. We will take the necessary steps to stop the use of your information for such purposes as quickly as possible.

    In such case we will, however, continue to use your personal data for the purposes set out in the above section for as long as necessary to achieve such purposes.

    Collection of non-personal information

    We may automatically collect information about you such as the type of internet browsers you use or the website from which you linked to our website. We may also aggregate details which, you have submitted to the website (for example, your age and the town where you live). You cannot be identified from this information and it is only used to assist us in providing an effective service on this website.     Upon request United Way will provide you with information about whether we hold any of your personal information. If your personal information changes, or if you no longer desire our service, you may correct, update, or delete it by making the change on our member information page or by contacting us by telephone or postal mail at the contact information listed below; We will respond to your request within a reasonable timeframe.

    Data Retention

    We will retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. Please contact us if you wish to cancel your account or request that we no longer use your information to provide you services. We will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

    Social Media Features and Widgets

    Our website includes social media features, such as the Facebook Like button, and widgets, such as the Share This button or interactive mini-programs that run on our site.
